In our agency, a quarter of total of our adoptive families and birth families have opened their adoption and have agreed to exchange information about their last names and identifying information by the actual birth of the child. Mostly, the birth mother keeps the child’s name which is chosen by the adoptive family including their last name on the baby’s birth certificate. In most of the cases, the adoptive family with their relatives as well as the birth family and their relatives are present at the time of child’s birth and spend quality time, so that these wonderful memories can be stored and relished by the child after he grows up.
We have observed that even if the adoption is not fully opened from child’s birth, both the parties get successful in growing their relation stronger within the initial 2 or 3 yrs of adoption.
